NO AMOUNT OF NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING CAN CHANGE THE TRUTH
The truth is my leadership made a difference – on transportation, the environment, education funding, and fighting for property tax relief for us. I am proud of my record of accomplishment at the Legislature and I ask for your vote on November 4th.
THE TRUTH IS MY LEADERSHIP MADE A DIFFERENCE
The truth is I authored a bill that would decrease pollution from cars and would save Minnesotans more than $263 million in fuel costs.
- My bill would require automakers to start selling less polluting and more fuel efficient new cars, trucks and SUVs in Minnesota starting in 2013. Thirteen other states already have adopted this measure.
- The truth is that Minnesota lawmakers and Minnesota’s Governor always have been and always will be in control of Minnesota’s vehicle emissions laws.
- The truth is my bill would save consumers money. The Governor’s Climate Change Advisory Group estimated it would save us more than $263 million in fuel costs.
- Auto makers have the technology to make vehicles less polluting and more fuel efficient. Just as they fought the 1970 Clean Air Act signed by President Nixon, they fought adding seat belts, and they fought adding air bags, the auto lobby is fighting laws that would result in greater fuel efficiency.
The truth is I fought for and achieved transportation funding that speeds up completion of Highways 610, 10 and 252.
- I authored the transportation funding bill and helped achieve the historic, bipartisan override of the Governor’s veto. I authored the entire bill – providing $5.5 billion for better roads and safer bridges and $1.1 billion for transit over the next 10 years. The bill provides funding to replace Minnesota’s 13 fracture critical, structurally deficient bridges.
The truth is I never have and never will author any legislation that would be a conflict of interest.
- As a strong supporter of kids in sports, I serve as a Commissioner on Minnesota’s Amateur Sports Commission. My opponent claims that the bill I carried to fix the potholes in the parking lot and fix the leaky roof at the National Sports Center in Blaine would somehow drive customers to my family’s auto parts business located nearby. This argument is ridiculous to the point of being dishonest. This kind of last-minute, dishonest smear has no place in Minnesota politics.
There may be additional false, last-minute attacks and distortions. I invite you to call me with any questions or concerns you may have. My home number is 763-425-5279. I am proud of my work and I ask for your vote on November 4th.
